* 80% of micro businesses do not consider cyber security to be a high priority.
89% of micro businesses claim to have never been affected by a cyber security breach, yet only 14% have intrusion detection systems in place to detect such a breach.
Only 15% of micro businesses are worried about how/where their business stores data, but one-third would move data to the cloud for “greater data security”.
About the research
The primary research was conducted by YouGov based on interviews with 1,000 respondents
between the 7th and 20th of February 2018. All interviews were conducted online with YouGov
panellists. The sample was made up of owners and proprietors, partners, chairpersons, chief
executives, managing directors, and IT decision-makers of businesses with 1–10 employees.
“This study shows that many micro businesses remain in the dark over cyber security threats and the solutions available to defend themselves. While 84% of businesses claim to have ‘some form of cyber security protection in place,’ the fact that 37% of businesses don’t even have a firewall should be a cause for concern.
“The report found that 85% of businesses have no concern with where their data is stored, but it’s reassuring that 33% would move their data to the cloud for ‘greater data security’. It is also
reassuring to see that 44% of micro businesses have at least some of their data in the cloud, and are already benefiting from the increased security and accessibility cloud solutions offer.”
